THE DEVELOPMENT FUNNEL
The User Guided Design funnel and tool-kit are the steps that we take, and the tools that we use to dream up, validate, design and launch products.
User guided design starts with an clear understanding of your user needs, and then using those needs to guide the development given your market, technology and business limitations. It's not about telling your users how you are going to do something, it's about delighting your users with features and functionality before they have to ask you for it (or before they hit the refresh button hoping to get it).
The process starts with concept for a new product or enhancement. Generally, those concepts can come from four areas. Brainstorm and Feedback consist of the internal and external user guided ideas, while Market Needs and Technology Application speaks to the market-driven or technology-driven user guided ideas. Once the ideas have been documented, they begin their journey through the funnel.
Your ability to launch a successful new product or service is dependent on your ability to listen to your users. Product concepts come from a variety of areas, and capturing those concepts is the first stage. Learn more about listening to your users and the tools we use to do it.
Being able to interpret what you hear into an actionable product roadmap is all part of the planning stage in user guided design. Learn more about planning and the tools we use to do it.
Having heard from your users, and interpreted that into a plan, it's now time to start developing. But you never want to do that in a vacuum. Learn about the essentials of building and testing your prototypes to maximize your chances of success.
Commercialization is the last stage, but only the beginning. Learn about the tools you can use to test your products and services in-market, and how to feed that back into the User Guided funnel.
